Managing quality as the business grows

Sunset Sleepers, a company that makes concrete sleepers for retaining walls, has grown quickly since starting in 2014. They now run three sites in Melbourne with about 30 employees. In 2021, new owners took over, which brought big changes, expansion and a new focus on workplace safety. The effort was led by Wendy Archer, the site manager to apply to the program.

Frank Rizzo, an OHS Essentials program safety expert, played an important role in changing their approach towards safety. Over three visits, Frank provided hands-on support, offering tailored solutions. Recommendations made by Frank helped Sunset Sleepers make necessary changes to build safety practices.

Thanks to the program, Sunset Sleepers is not only ensuring its operations are safe and efficient but also creating a workplace where employees can do well as the business grows.

With the company expanding so quickly, we wanted to ensure our site was safe, staff were trained in OHS and were proactive in managing safety measures.

My previous role was in book keeping, so I had limited knowledge of OHS. This program not only improved my understanding but also equipped me to educate our staff and highlight workplace safety policies.

The program made clear the critical importance of OHS and workplace safety.
